Company history
Since 2003 we have carried out a huge number of contracts for a wide variety of clients. Listed below are a few examples:
Setting Out & Surveying at Heathrow Terminal 5
We were engaged by the Dutch steelwork contractor Zuid Nederlanse Staalbow to set out all of the holding down anchor bolts in both Terminals 5A & 5B. In total we set out over 17’000 holding down bolts to a tolerance of +/- 2mm. We commenced our work on site in September 2004 and made regular visits to site until late 2006. Our remit was to ensure that all of the anchor bolt positions were marked out around two weeks in advance of the erection team. This enabled the erection team to advance at an efficient pace, without any hold up caused be out of place anchor bolts. We were also responsible for the alignment of the steelwork as well as ensuring that it was constructed to the correct levels. Again working to extremely tight tolerances in a difficult environment. Once a section of steelwork was complete, we carried out an as built survey to ensure that it was within tolerance.
We also carried out precise as built surveys on behalf of an international baggage system specialist. Our work involved carrying out as built surveys of the building superstructure and comparing it to the design drawings. Any discrepancies could then be highlighted, and the design team informed. Any design changes could then be made prior to the manufacture / installation of the baggage system. With over 18 kilometres of conveyors and associated machinery to install to tolerances of +/-2mm in certain locations, unnecessary complications are unwelcome!
We are returning to site in February 2009 to carry out the next phase of work – Terminal 5C.
Setting out of roads & sewers
Over the last five years we have been providing surveying services to an established Cheshire based civil engineering contractor. Working throughout Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Cheshire we have set out over 50 kilometres of roads and sewers on over 20 residential developments.
We have also carried out engineering works for a number of other civil engineering contractors on both residential, commercial and local authority projects.
Setting out of piles
We have travelled throughout England and Wales on behalf of a number of leading piling contractors. Setting out a huge number of piles on both commercial and residential projects. Our ability to set out to the prescribed tolerance and to resolve any problems whilst on site in an accurate and efficient manner has ensured that the contractors regularly engage our services.
Hydrographical surveys
We are also capable of carrying out hydrographical surveys using our GPS or Total Station instruments combined with Sonar depth reading equipment. We have carried out such surveys for; waste disposal contractors who required volumetric calculations of flooded quarries and clay pits prior to purchase, developers converting flooded gravel pits into marinas, quarrying companies requiring pre and post completion surveys following silt removal from settling lagoons and from environmental consultants carrying out flood risk assessments.
Land and Building Surveys
Since our formation in January 2003 we have carried out a huge number of topographical and building surveys for a variety of clients. Our projects have ranged from small surveys for one residential dwelling through to large surveys for major road building schemes. We aim to ensure that all of our clients return to us by providing an accurate and efficient service.
Site Engineering
Through out 2006 and 2007 we were employed by Sheffield’s largest property developer as their surveying and engineering sub-contractor. We were involved on all of their sites, a total of over 300 residential units. We were responsible for all of the engineering surveying duties. We are also carrying out topographical surveys of all their new sites prior to planning etc.
We have also been involved on numerous other projects by a variety of clients.
Volumetric Calculations
We have been working closely with a local heavy civils contractor providing setting out and surveying services on a number of contracts. We have also carried out volumetric surveys and calculations at both the tender and the valuation stages of all of their earthwork contracts.
Our experience using LSS software has enabled us to provide an accurate service for a number of other clients on projects ranging from excavation for a single residential development to £12M reclamation projects.
Utility Location
Utility location is an essential part of the modern construction project for those aware of HSE guidance HSG47. Using the latest ground penetrating radar equipment from Mala and the latest electromagnetic detection equipment from Radiodetection we can locate and map underground utilities. Not only can we trace metallic pipes and power/communication cables, but non-metallic services such as plastic gas and water pipes using our Ground Penetrating Radar. We can accurately give depth readings as well. Our client base varies from developers and consultants through to the leading temporary buildings supplier who uses our services to ensure that their sites are free of utilities prior to driving large numbers of 1m long steel anchor stakes into the ground!
Surveying Equipment
We currently use the latest Leica surveying equipment. We have Leica robotic Total Stations, which allow “one man” operation and have reflectorless measurement technology to allow precise measurements of inaccessible features such as quarry faces, building facades etc. Our total stations also have 3D stakeout software, which allows a 3 dimensional model of a site to be uploaded onto the instrument to allow cut/fill to be calculated instantly anyware on site.
We also have Leica’s latest GPS surveying instrument the Smart Rover which allows surveying and setting out in real time to Ordnance Survey coordinates and levels.
For building surveys we use Leica Disto’s to enable accurate measurements to be taken very efficiently.
